Take Action
As someone who is new to the real estate investment realm, I want to begin documenting my success's... faliures and learning experiences from the very beginning. I've been researching real estate investment books, articles, reports and audio's for a few years now. Finally I'm taking action and beginning to break out of my comfort zones to pursue my dream of being a real estate investment entrepreneur. Is it scary? Yes! Is it exciting? Yes! Is there risk(s) involved? Yes!! However... working two jobs and sacrificing a social life isn't the way I want to live the rest of my life. I've been working in the medical field for 13 years now and as many in this field do... I'm getting burnt out and want something different at this point of my life.
Recently I purchased a real estate investment course filled with great information and the recommended way to get started with real estate investing is by doing no money down deals through lease options. Using the recommended "for rent" method, I have made a few attempts to contact land lords advertising houses for rent. Three of the attempts were answering machines and the fourth was a real estate agent working for a land lord to rent the property. Making those calls put me outside of my confort zone and even though I got answering machines/voice mail on the calls I made, I was still very nervous. When doing something new and taking action, you will be forced to leave your comfort zone. It's important to break through your barriers or you will never be able to grow. I think that is the hardest part about real estate investing. Yes, it requires a lot of work and research which can be a challenging task. However, putting yourself into a situation where you can and most likely as a beginner will make mistakes takes a lot of effort and courage.
To take action is the most important part of real estate investing. Without the will and desire to do that, all the real estate knowledge in the world won't do you a bit of good. Fear is a difficult emotion to overcome, but it's not impossible. Fear of the unknown, fear of making a mistake, fear of not having an answer to a question and looking like a fool... these things will happen as a beginner and you have to accept it in order to get past it. First get some knowledge, then work on getting past the fear that holds you back from taking action. Taking the first step is hard, but like anything in life, nothing worth having comes easy.
Today is August 27, 2006... a new day to make another attempt to venture outside of my comfort zone. I will get the real estate section of my local sunday paper and highlight ads in areas I want to invest in. I'll call the contact numbers, leave messages or talk with the land lords to see if they are interested in selling on a rent to own basis. I WILL TAKE ACTION!!
